How Tax Works When You Shop With Us

Audio Imperial, operated by NMG Express LLC, sells exclusively to customers located in the United States. Sales tax is never built into our advertised prices — it is calculated transparently, shown to you before payment, and itemized on every receipt.

Calculated at Checkout

Sales tax is never folded into a product's listed price. It is added as its own line item once you enter a shipping address.

Destination-Based

Your rate is based on the address your order ships to, not on our location in Orlando, Florida.

Itemized On Your Receipt

Every order confirmation email and invoice shows the exact tax amount charged as a separate, clearly labeled line.

No Hidden Surprises

The total shown at checkout, before you confirm payment, is exactly what gets charged to your card — nothing is added afterward.

How It Works

How We Calculate Your Sales Tax

Every price you see on Audio Imperial — on a product page, a collection page, in your cart, or in any advertisement — is the price before sales tax, the same way a price tag in a physical store doesn't include the tax you'll pay at the register.

Once you enter or select a shipping address at checkout, our system automatically calculates the sales tax owed using the combined state, county, and any applicable discretionary or local tax rate that applies to that exact delivery address. This amount appears as its own line, directly above your order total, before you submit payment.

If you change your shipping address, the tax amount recalculates immediately to reflect the new destination. The total you confirm at checkout is the total that is charged to your payment method — we do not add, adjust, or recalculate tax after an order has been placed.

Your order confirmation email and any invoice we issue will always show the tax charged as a distinct, labeled line item separate from the product subtotal and shipping.

What's Never Included in Our Price

Sales tax, use tax, and any similar government levy are never added into a product's listed [price] — only displayed separately once it is legally owed, at checkout.

What You Confirm Is What You Pay

The checkout total you approve, including tax, is the exact amount charged. We never apply additional taxes or fees after your order is placed.

Tax Jurisdiction

Where Audio Imperial Collects Sales Tax

Like every U.S. retailer, our obligation to collect sales tax in a given state depends on whether we have "nexus" — a sufficient business connection — with that state. We monitor this continuously across all fifty states.

Florida — Our Home State

NMG Express LLC, the company operating Audio Imperial, is physically registered and based at 4809 Laddie Ct, Orlando, Florida 32821. This physical presence creates automatic sales tax nexus with the State of Florida under Florida Statutes Chapter 212, regardless of order volume.

Every order shipped to a Florida address is taxed at the combined rate for the destination ZIP code, which currently includes the 6.0% Florida state sales tax plus Orange County's 0.5% discretionary surtax for Orlando-area deliveries (other Florida counties may carry a different discretionary surtax of their own, ranging up to 2.0%).

Component Rate
Florida State Sales Tax 6.0%
Orange County Discretionary Surtax (Orlando area) 0.5%
Combined Rate — Orlando, FL Deliveries 6.5%

Florida's county discretionary surtax applies only to the first $5,000 of the sales price of a single item. On higher-value audio equipment, any amount above $5,000 for that item is subject to the 6.0% state rate only, with no additional county surtax on the excess.

Selling Nationwide

Tax Collection in States Outside Florida

Following the U.S. Supreme Court's 2018 decision in South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc., states are permitted to require an out-of-state retailer to collect sales tax once that retailer's sales into the state cross a defined "economic nexus" threshold, even without a warehouse, office, or employee there.

Most Common Threshold

The majority of states set economic nexus at more than $100,000 in annual sales delivered into that state. A handful of states use a higher revenue threshold (for example, $250,000 or $500,000) instead.

Transaction Counts Are Fading Out

Many states formerly also counted 200 separate annual transactions toward nexus. As of 2026, a growing number of states (including Florida) never adopted this test, and several others have repealed it in favor of revenue alone.

We Monitor Continuously

We track our sales by destination state on an ongoing basis. As soon as our activity in a state reaches that state's registration threshold, we register with that state's tax authority and begin collecting — automatically reflected at your checkout.

The States Where We Collect Tax May Change Over Time

Because economic nexus is tied to sales volume, the specific list of states in which Audio Imperial is registered to collect sales tax can expand as our business grows, and individual state thresholds and rules are also revised by state legislatures from time to time. Rather than publish a list that could become outdated, we apply the correct, current rate automatically at checkout based on your shipping address and the latest registration status for that state. Audio Imperial does not operate as a marketplace facilitator for any other seller — every transaction on this site is a direct sale between you and NMG Express LLC.

No Statewide Sales Tax

Shipping to Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, or Oregon?

Five U.S. states do not impose a general statewide sales tax. If your order ships to one of these states, you will generally see no sales tax charged at checkout.

Alaska
Delaware
Montana
New Hampshire
Oregon
A Note on Alaska

Alaska has no statewide sales tax, but more than fifty individual Alaska municipalities and boroughs participate in a coordinated local remote-seller sales tax program. If a registered local jurisdiction within Alaska applies to your specific delivery address, that local rate — and only that local rate — will appear at checkout. Most Alaska addresses outside participating jurisdictions will show no tax at all.

Product Taxability

What's Taxable — and What Isn't

Audio Imperial sells amplifiers and receivers, DACs, music streamers, speakers, and turntables. Here is how these products, and our shipping, are treated for sales tax purposes.

Our Products Are Standard Taxable Goods

Amplifiers, DACs, music streamers, speakers, and turntables are tangible personal property. In every U.S. state that imposes a general sales tax, hi-fi audio equipment is taxed at that state's standard general-merchandise rate — the same rate applied to most consumer electronics. None of our products qualify for a reduced-rate or exempt category such as groceries, prescription medication, or certain clothing.

Because of this, if a state appears in your checkout with a tax line at all, that line will apply to the full value of the products in your order at the standard rate for your delivery address.

Shipping & Freight

Audio Imperial provides free shipping on every order delivered within the United States, with no minimum purchase required and no separate freight or delivery charge added to your order. Because there is no shipping fee on your invoice, there is nothing for a shipping-related tax to apply to.

In states where freight charges are separately taxable, this is only relevant if a shipping fee is actually billed; since our standard shipping is $0.00, this does not affect the tax shown on your order.

Exemptions

Buying for Resale or as a Tax-Exempt Organization?

Our checkout does not include an automated exemption-certificate flow, so resale and tax-exempt purchases are handled manually by our support team to make sure they're applied correctly.

Who Qualifies

Resale: Licensed dealers and businesses purchasing audio equipment to resell it, rather than for their own use, may purchase tax-exempt with a valid resale certificate. In Florida, this is the Annual Resale Certificate (Form DR-13), issued to active registered dealers by the Florida Department of Revenue; most other states have an equivalent resale or exemption certificate.

Tax-Exempt Organizations: Qualifying government entities, schools, and certain nonprofit organizations may purchase tax-exempt with a valid exemption certificate. In Florida, this is the Consumer's Certificate of Exemption (Form DR-14), issued under Section 212.08, Florida Statutes; other states issue comparable documentation.

To qualify, the certificate must be current, signed, and issued for the same state the order is shipping to — a certificate from one state cannot be used to exempt an order shipping to a different state.

How to Submit Your Certificate

1
Email us before you order, if possible

Send a clear copy of your current resale or exemption certificate to support@audioimperial.com along with the name and email address you'll use to place your order.

2
We verify and flag your account

Our support team confirms the certificate is current and matches your shipping state, typically within one business day.

3
Already placed your order and were charged tax?

Reply to your order confirmation email with your certificate attached. Once verified, we will refund the tax charged to your original payment method, generally within 5–10 business days.

Pricing Accuracy

Price Display & Checkout Transparency

We hold every page on this site — product pages, collection pages, the cart, and any advertisement we run — to the same standard: the price you see is the price before tax, and nothing more is ever added beyond the tax disclosed at checkout.

Consistent Across Every Channel

The price shown for a product is identical whether you find it through search, a shopping ad, our homepage, or a direct link — and it always excludes tax.

Tax Shown Before You Pay

The exact tax amount is calculated and displayed before you confirm and submit payment — never estimated, hidden, or revealed only after your card is charged.

No Post-Purchase Additions

Once your order is confirmed, we do not retroactively add tax, surcharges, or any other fee that wasn't already shown on your checkout total.

Consumer Protection Notice: As a U.S.-based retailer, Audio Imperial complies with the FTC Act (15 U.S.C. § 45) governing unfair and deceptive pricing practices, with Florida's sales and use tax law (Chapter 212, Florida Statutes), and with the destination-based sales tax laws of every other state in which we are registered to collect tax. All pricing, tax disclosures, and promotional claims on this website are accurate and not misleading.
